It was the Asian economic crisis in late 1990s that triggered a chain of events that finally led to the establishment of a group of companies dedicated to growth and development of cassava based agribusiness in Indonesia. Over time, the companies became known as Adhi Group.

Founders of the group foresaw the potential of cassava beyond its traditional role as the world’s largest source of carbohydrates for human food. Cassava carries with it a capability to transform the socio-economic conditions of any region and society in contact, provided the right site and financial management expertise can be effectively combined with appropriate technology and solid financial support.

A series of extensive and exhaustive studies were subsequently commissioned to enable a detailed business and financial plan to be developed. However, it was not until the year of 2005 that the information provided by the studies and analysis were deemed sufficient to launch a pilot operation. It was critical that any current-at-that-time practices in cassava related activities were fully understood and any shortcomings or imperfections in the value chain were identified. It was this area of analytical study that would ensure an optimum and improved future operation.
